Design the Future for (Art)Craft

Does craft have a future? Craft sounds old-fashioned, but is getting hip at the same time! Numerous initiatives put handmade design in the spotlight, young talents go for old techniques and traditions.

On the 8th of December, thriving cases shall inspire policy makers, education institutions, organisations and designers to reflect and discuss, in a cross over of cultural heritage, design, education and creative economies.

Delicious kitchen gems by FoAM will accompany the participants through the day and inspire through the taste buds.

Toolquiz aims at defining relevant public policies able to support the cultural sector as a key factor regarding the blossoming of knowledge based society based on a sustainable development of human capital.
Its objective is to developing, in each partner region, suitable strategies, policies and tools on the link between the cultural and creative sector, the knowledge-based economy and the employability, by the identification and exchange of good practices.

In the weekend of the 17th-19th of December we will look at the act of repairing. We focus on textile and clothing, looking how something is woven, stitched together, consisting of threads and layers, and how these structures break, wear and tear with a body inside.

The Friday afternoon from 14 to 17h Abla who works as a volunteer in the Vaartkapoen repair and retouche atelier (http://www.vaartkapoen.be/socecnaai.htm) will show us the work they do. She will also show a technique for repairing.
