Lead by Bart Vandeput, the PhoEf participants explored the interdependent relationships between people, photovoltaics and light as a primary resource. Also the opportunities and limits of low levels of electricity will be investigated.
The workshop began with a hands-on session, where playful observations and interactions with light are followed by experiments with various solar energy technologies and low power devices (without battery back-up). We designed a simple set up, calculated the power requirements and measured the power output. The session took place indoors, as well as outdoors. The practical part was followed by a theoretical discussion that contextualized photovoltaics against the backdrop of access to energy in the post-fossil fuel society.
