Following two months of work with Elias Vervecken (bruitage) en Rebecca Lenaerts (theatre, radiostories), two classes from two Brussels' schools (De Wimpel, Elsene and St-Joris, Brussels), get a chance to meet each other on the 1st of March at FoAM.

That day, the children continue their work on insects and include the aspect of taste: a lunch with insects will be prepared together. The menu features catarpillar soup, cochenille-red potato puree and a honey dessert.
The experiment will be concluded with a live radio transmission between 2pm and 3pm.

RadioMus-e is a project of MUS-E Belgium, a bilingual institution organising Art-in-School projects. Artists from various disciplines are invited to work in a school class with children and their teacher to initiate an artistic process.

images: http://www.flickr.com/photos/foam/sets/72157626200712065/
event 1x brussels children Edible Insects food Fri, 11 Feb 2011 19:56:18 +0000 christina 1975 at http://fo.am Urban Sanatorium Supper http://x4.fo.am/sanatorium_supper

Start: 2009-10-17 14:00 GMT+2

End: 2009-10-18 19:00 GMT+2

A supper for pathologic appetites will be served 19:00h on 18 October 2009 in the W.G kunst, a former sanatorium as part of the Wilhelmina Gasthuis hospital complex, Amsterdam.

The meal will be prepared with urban medicinal plants, harvested from in and around Amsterdam. Each course is a victual vaccine made of minute amounts of urbanic matter to provide resistance against and treatment for most of our urban ailments, real or hypochondric. They will tell their tales over beer infused dishes and muse about world-altering meditations in the glass.

Please let us know if you are planning to come, so we can reserve a glass and a plate for you. The process of preparation, presentation and consumption of food, its related cultural rituals, and their informal breaking are used to achieve the synaesthesia of sensual perception in responsive environments.

‘Blanc-mange’ [white eat], the well-known French dessert, has its roots in medieval times. Figuratively it means “nonsense” or “trivial matters”. Although accused of being bland and unimaginative, white foods lend themselves to be painted like a blank canvas. Structured as a slow-food event, ‘Blanc-Mange Cinema’ comprises a gastronomic, as well as cinematic experience. Food films are screened on an edible projection surface of white foods. Course after course, the films unfold on a changing table-top-landscape, dependent on the viewer/diner’s appetite. Blanc-Mange Cinema offers a tasty critique on the idea of the sterile ‘white cube’ gallery spaces where the ‘do not touch’ art dogma still reigns. In our case, art is something to be consumed and internalised with gusto.

Digestible Designers: Zanzi/FoAM/ Rasa Alksnyte, Pieter De Wel, Maja Kuzmanovic, Nat Muller
Spatial Design: FoAM / Lina Kusaite in collaboration with L’Anverre
Media Designers: FoAM/ Nik Gaffney, Maja Kuzmanovic
Narrative Design & Text Research: Maja Kuzmanovic, Nat Muller

http://libarynth.org/bizar_story
http://libarynth.org/sensual_story
event Blanc-Mange cinema brussels nourish Feeding food food movies white food Sat, 21 Jun 2008 16:54:56 +0000 maja 1464 at http://fo.am Bitesize Lectures http://x4.fo.am/bsl
Bitesize lectures are periodic public events organised by FoAM in Brussels. The events consist of lectures and presentations, by emerging and established practitioners in a variety of fields. The talks last for approximately one hour, with another two to three hours reserved for discussions, moderated by one of FoAM's collaborators. The presentations are complemented by thematic foods and drinks, providing an informal and relaxed atmosphere. We designed this series to allow in-depth conversations with people who are great speakers and have interesting things to say, without being rushed. We wanted to go beyond the obligatory Q&A session, encouraging inspiring dialogues, which can be valuable for both the presenters and the audience. The regular visitors of the series is a mixture of people who are either professionally, or personal curious about the speakers and the topics. The lectures are given avoiding excessive use of jargon, which facilitates engaging interdisciplinary conversations.
event bitesize lectures brussels food lectures talks Wed, 04 Jun 2008 11:38:15 +0000 nik 493 at http://fo.am table http://x4.fo.am/node/72 http://x4.fo.am/node/72#comments foamfroth foamfroth Striking image blancmange food table white food Thu, 27 Mar 2008 08:03:06 +0000 nik 72 at http://fo.am
